B Directorate-General for International Economic Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has the general supervision for the promotion of interstate economic relations and foreign economic and trade policies, as well as for the negotiation of bilateral contracts and agreements and the coordination and evaluation of the Offices for Economic and Commercial Affairs.
B Directorate-General supervises seven Directorates, three of which (Β3, Β4, Β5) perform geography - specific activities, whereas the other four specialize in Strategic Planning, International Economic Institutions, International Energy Issues and Business Development. Added to this are the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) and the Adriatic - Ionian Initiative (AII).
Therefore, one can appreciate the importance of the activities performed by the Directorates falling under B Directorate General, especially in the current stage of international affairs, which are strongly dependent on economy and economic interstate relations. It should also be taken into account that Greece, being a strong supporter of international law, is constantly seeking to strengthen its bilateral financial relations with other countries.
